Every now and then something related to cultural identity, or its misappropriation is denounced, whether in fashion, music or in different scenarios. This allows us to reflect on the subject and gain new insights. However, what can never be forgotten is the role of the individual to be knowledgeable about his or her own culture.

Cultural appropriation is the adoption of instruments, images, symbols that come from a culture that is not one's own. The idea also encompasses the presence of power dynamics. In short, a dominant culture appropriates elements from cultures that have been systematically oppressed. We have seen numerous cases involving countries such as Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, etc.

The latest international controversy occurred on social networks, where influencer Lívia Nunes has been questioned during her trip to Turkey. In her Instagram posts, Lívia appears wearing a hijab, which was criticized by the also influencer Zahra Omarji. Who left a comment explaining the reasons why hijab should not be worn as a form of accessory or something "fashionable". Later, the comment was deleted, and Zahra was blocked by Lívia. "How is it possible that a person with so much purchasing power has no education and respect for the fundamentals of another culture and religion?" says Zahra.

Also, recently, controversy arose due to a bag from designer Carolina Herrera, which carries details that resemble symbols of Costa Rican culture, such as the colors of the flag, in addition, the material and shape are similar to coffee bags, so popular in the country.

The American brand became the object of criticism and all kinds of comments. The publication quickly generated reactions with more than 14,200 likes and comments, mostly negative, about the product.

Culture undoubtedly contributes to the world of creativity, knowledge, innovation, art and reflection. Likewise, there are several novelties regarding these facts, and every year more and more controversies arise.
