UNICEF, in its most recent report on child nutrition, has revealed worrying figures on food poverty affecting children around the world. And although in Latin America and the Caribbean, progress has been made in recent years, reflecting a decrease in food insecurity, the problem continues to be evident.

According to the report, children suffer from poor nutrition due to lack of access to basic and nutritious food. This situation not only jeopardizes their physical health and cognitive development, but also deepens social and economic inequalities globally.

Among the underlying factors contributing to child food poverty, the report identifies unequal access to resources, global economic instability and armed conflicts that displace millions of families, leaving them without access to adequate food. In addition, climate crises and natural disasters are exacerbating this situation by affecting agricultural production and food availability in many regions. This is evidence that society's problems are converging, creating more challenges that urgently need to be solved.

It is for this reason that, in the face of this crisis, UNICEF calls for a coordinated international response that includes effective public policies to ensure food security for children around the world. It is crucial that governments increase investment in child nutrition programs, strengthen health systems and educate communities about healthy and sustainable food practices.

UNICEF also invites various sectors to join in the solution, including humanitarian and development organizations, the food and beverage industry, financial partners, and particularly civil society and the media, where they are invited to work with governments and influential leaders to garner political support and influence.

to garner the political support and resources needed to eliminate child food poverty and raise public awareness of the urgent need for action.

There is no doubt that UNICEF disseminates these reports as a call for global action to create an environment where all children have access to adequate and nutritious food, thus ensuring a more just and prosperous future for generations to come.
