Environmental myopia

3...2...1... It is officially my birthday and the systemic clock of my mind opposes the biological one, returning to zero, filling itself again with new desires, desires and purposes to fulfill during the next 365 days until my next thirty-few, for now.

I stretch my arms with all my strength even between the sheets before getting up and putting my right foot on the floor before the left, I walk exactly 17 steps until I reach the bathroom to brush my teeth, look in the mirror and realize that at a glance everything It remains the same and no more gray hairs have appeared than what I counted the previous night.

I walk 17 more steps back to my room and play a meditation audio to give thanks for the new day, I light the cinnamon incense that I bought from Igone Natural at the market; A very nice girl who explained to me what she did and how she had to use each of her products according to its smell and components. It's wonderful how, if you take the time to talk to the creator of the products you are about to buy, you fill yourself with thousands of emotional reasons to justify the purchase you are about to make.

And there I am, meditating with a pleasant smell of cinnamon, myrrh and flowers, visualizing and being grateful for one more day and one more year, analyzing my thoughts and giving myself the first minutes of the day to connect with myself.

And so this approach came to my mind: without these rituals... Could I be able to achieve the results I want to set for my new year of life?

Birthdays, like the beginning of a New Year, represent a new beginning. They are moments of finitude where all our pains, non-conformities and desires for change appear, seeking growth and improvement in our lives. They are the only or few moments where empathy arises naturally to connect with what surrounds us.

I emphasize connecting because of the current disconnection in which we live today, and it is ironic that this is happening right now when the world is increasingly connected on a digital level. We are exposed and bombarded with so much information every second that we have become accustomed to living in constant apathy to avoid feeling pain.

In fact, the other day I read a study carried out in 2021 by the Journal of Neurology, where it explains at a scientific level that excess information causes mental stress and neuronal information overload, causing a human attention deficit that worsened even more during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Is this also influencing what is currently happening with our businesses and this resistance to change? Does attention deficit affect and turn into delay in decision-making and therefore inertia in the face of the latent global warming that we are experiencing? Very possibly.

But, it may also become uncomfortable now that the planet is throwing its gray hairs into the air.

And it is here that we begin to realize the urgency of taking actions and adopting profound changes; changes that must arise from our actions that, in turn, are part of the decision-making about: how, why, and many other questions that affect what we should assume about what Sustainability really means for, from of this, assuming business models in a responsible way with the planet.

Because it is not possible that we are experiencing a constant environmental myopia (...If I were a scientist, rest assured that I would patent this phenomenon).

We do not see what is before our eyes! And if we see it, we stretch the moment of change as much as possible. Thinking that we still have time, and waiting for that finitude to arrive in our lives or in our companies to say, well, it's time to change. It is evident that the consequences of not changing are already beginning to be noticeable, and we see how the systemic and capitalist clock to which we are accustomed is collapsing and is increasingly opposing the biological clock of the planet with less and less power.

Today is officially my birthday, and I have done all the necessary rituals to start a great new year in my life. What I didn't mention is that I have done these rituals every day for many years now. And it was not until I connected with my environment that I knew what I had to improve and adjust in my life to live what I wanted. The results began to be evident when I decided to take action, not only on my birthday, not only every New Year's Eve but every day and step by step.

Let's try to be more connected, to realize that change can be something natural and that it makes sense: from giving ourselves time in the first minutes of the day; allow ourselves the pleasure of listening to a nice girl who sells her product; make us aware of how many steps you need to take to reach the bathroom. Open your eyes!

3...2...1... Today it's your turn.
